Hello Don, Thanks for the comments. As you are suggesting, we are indeed moving to 802.3af compliance. All our new products will support that. The PoEO has a "classic" mode to work with the existing models.
In addition, the PoEO includes the protection and grounding circuits also, which is a requirement for meeting the building code complaint installations. This requires the unit to be mounted outside, just prior to the cable run entering the premises. Hope this explains the rational for the product concept. This POE unit looks like overkill and will probably be overpriced. As an example the Seano CB3 is 802.3af compliant so we can use the stock power supply and passive injector or if the run is to long for the sock power supply we can use an active POE like the D-link POE kit. Heck it shouldn't be that hard to come up with something like the PowerShot II that would work with current production as well as 802.3af future production.
