The halved throughput only applies to the single radio in repeater mode. However, if you have any clients on the APPO that your style of repeater connects to, the bandwidth is limited to them because on average your repeater node is going to take up more bandwidth from that APPO.
I'm sure it's been said before in here. But, there is no way to nail down an exact maximum number of users that an AP can handle. The only true response you can get is, "it depends.". It depends on the users, what they are doing with the connection, and whether or not you have them bandwidth limited on an individual basis. You may be able to handle 128 light surfers, but only 20 heavy gamers and downloaders. It just depends...
