Well, looking at the product photos I see they still have the same poorly designed plastic case with the unshielded CAT 5 sticking out acting like an antenna to attract transient EM pulses blowing the ethernet port as well as the router or NIC on the other end. Geez, they really should have corrected this IMHO. (On a related note we have some evidence to suggest the electrical design of the POE may have contributed to the Ethernet Port Dying problem. So, going forward it would be good to know if SB has addressed this and corrected it. Comments?).

If you open one of these "new" units up I wonder if the circuit board is fin shaped. Is this the same hardware as the existing product line?? The laundry list of new features is long. Will these new features really work or will they be really buggy? Not trying to be negative, just pragmatic based on past experiences with SB equipment. IMHO, reliability is about a thousand times more important than new features, so not knowing any more about this new product line than I do, it seems like they've kept the same form factor case and maybe the same hardware (they DO mention an extra processor) and just added firmware and software features. SB, please respond. Also, when you announce a new product don't you think it would be appropriate to announce the pricing at the same time???

Does anyone have an update on when the "Super POE" units will be shipping. What is the cost?

Subject: [smartBridges] FW: Introducing the airPoint XO series from smartBridges!

Hello ,

smartBridges will soon launch the airPoint XO series, its latest solution for Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWANs). The airPoint XO series has built-in bandwidth management capabilitiesallows flexible configurations and is a powerful tool for Wireless ISP installations. The airPoint XO series addresses four key areas that are of vital importance in any WWAN network: Subscriber Bandwidth Management, Advanced Networking Capabilities, Remote Infrastructure Management and Carrier-Class Reliability.

airPoint XO, the first product in this series is an access point with built-in subscriber bandwidth management, RADIUS client for access control and URL forwarding of the unauthorized users. This product is ideal for deploying large WISP networks and Public Access Hotspots.

airPoint XO2, the second product, is a dual-radio device that offers all the features of the airPoint XO, with added modular control of the individual radios  to enable various configurations.

The airPoint XO series provides a two-layered protection through the IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE Outdoor for regulatory compliant installations. The radios are supported by multiple Network Processing Elements to handle heavy network loads. These devices can be remotely configured, monitored upgraded, reset and even power cycled, thus allowing ease of maintenance.
