Hi Chris,
When there is no traffic passed between the client devices and the access point for the certain time, the client devices becomes idle but the LINK STATUS shows that it REMAIN associated. Once the traffic is kicked in, it will wake up again and start talking to the access point. As I mentioned before, this watchdog feature firmware continuously monitor the link status at every 3 minutes interval and it will make sure that the LINK STATUS is up all the times. It is not necessary to run continuous PING to wake up the unit.

No no im not complaining about the upgrade I got about 80 out of 85 that I attempted upgraded perfect im just wondering why the units have this "sleep" feature that a ping refreshes it back to normal maybe that's why people said they get more fluent use of there radios when they run continues scans/pings on there network.

Hi Chris,
When the aB not associated, it keeps continuously scan for the access points at every 3 minutes interval. This BETA firmware has built in watchdog timer in built into it which will reset the unit under certain conditions to regain the association and this will ensure that the link is up most of the time.
If there is any time out during the firmware upgrade and it will wait for while (few seconds) and the complete the process. I am sure that the time out for few seconds will not impact the firmware upgrade process and there is no need to wake up the unit by PING command.
Thank you

Interesting question....
I have updated 30 out of my 200 sb's to the latest 1.08 firmware to see how it works and keeps the units up so far most of them are still up solid as bricks but I noticed something... EVERY UNIT and I noticed this before the upgrade times out the first 1 or 2 pings like there sleeping and the ping wakes em up or something. Why is this its kinda annoying. Any suggestions or reasons? |
