I wondered if it was doing that. So the wireless is acting just like a simple hub arangement, not like a switch which knows which port to send the data on. I will try replacing my hub with a cheap 10/100 switch and see what effect that has. These days the 10Mb hubs that used to be sold have been superseeded by 10/100 switches. As far as I know, these are smart enough to know which MAC addresses are on which socket. I don't want to go all out for a router as this requires configuration. Thanks for your help.
