Is your exec-timeout on the VTY lines set on your Cisco boxes? That is the timer that disconnects sessions after idle time or an improperly disconnected session (not typing exit to logout and just closing the telnet window)

(Our cisco boxes can get flaky, in that they continue to operate, and respond to traffic (i.e. pings etc..) but sometimes lock us out of Telnet/SSH/Web based management. (Funky huh). Guess its like using what's left of its brain for important systems first (i.e. like keeping customer working). But leaves us no choice but to hard cycle.. and I like the pager ability to do that without going to the field....
