Short preamble will allow for slightly better speeds but takes longer (1-2 minutes) to associate. If your wireless network in not stable you need to use long. WISP scenario is considered a non-stable scenario. Short is really only usefull in a home network using desktop computers that never move. The speed savings is not worth much anyway.
