Hello everyone. I recently (today) bought some Samsung S2 external hard drives, but the smartctl tool won't run on them out of the box, crying the following: ========== BEGIN SMARTCTL OUTPUT ========== root@sysresccd /root % smartctl -t offline /dev/sdf smartctl 5.40 2010-10-16 r3189 [i486-pc-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net
/dev/sdf: Unknown USB bridge [0x04e8:0x1f05 (0x000)] Smartctl: please specify device type with the -d option. Use smartctl -h to get a usage summary ========== END SMARTCTL OUTPUT ========== http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/Supported_USB-Devices According to that page, the disk should have a different VID:PID, but works with the "-d usbjmicron" switch anyhow. Could someone add this VID:PID combination to smartmontools so that it is recognized automatically in future versions?
