This device is in the current drivedb.h. Please run 
/usr/sbin/update-smart-drivedb. If this is a WD "My Passport Essential 
SE" or "Elements SE" USB device, its USB ID is also included. The -d sat 
is no longer be needed then.

Not needed for this device. If desired, you can add local entries via 
/etc/smart_drivedb.h, see -B option on smartctl man page.

No, hddtemp and smartmontools are unrelated. SAT (SCSI/ATA translation) 
is required here, hddtemp may or may not support it.
