This does not indicate a disk problem but prevents that SMART STATUS can be read. On Linux, it may be a problem in the SAT layer: ATA RETURN DESCRIPTOR is not returned if CK_COND is set. Try "smartctl -r ioctl,2 -H /dev/sdX" for debug output.
