Most WD USB drives work with '-d sat' option.

This version of smartctl is very old. Please update to 6.4 or a recent 
daily build[1].

Normally smartctl should report an unknown USB ID but this device is 
detected as SCSI.
Did you install a WD specific driver?

Please provide output of 'smartctl -r ioctl,2 -i ...' as attachment.
