Without SLOG, KVM and Netfs vols are going to be very slow. It has to do with synchronous writes being enabled on kvm zvols. The difference is night and day. You put a write optimized SSD as SLOG on your zones zpool and it's like comparing a Lamborghini to a Kia. The Intel S3700 200GB is the recommended drive.
