hiccups (completely losing network, for example). i plan to replace this with

We have at least one each of Windows Server 2008 R2 (I think using
virtio for network, but I'm not sure)
and Windows Server 2012 (I'm pretty sure we ended up using the emulated
e1000 for network stability...)
