hi all, zfs question here ... this does *NOT* reflect current code, and is
actually not even smartos; i'm just trying to determine where my issue may be
so i know whether it's likely just an "old code" problem or hardware or ... and
i figure the smartos folks are as knowledgeable in zfs issues as anyone else on
the planet ...
i have an old fileserver sitting at a customer site leveraging zfs and samba.
this is what i'm currently seeing:
%-=
NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
data ONLINE 0 0 0
mirror-0 ONLINE 0 0 0
ada1a ONLINE 0 0 0
ada3a ONLINE 0 0 0
errors: Permanent errors have been detected in the following files:
/data/fileserver/export/samba/shares/homes/tpc/Documents/Outlook
Files/Outlook.pst
%-=
a scrub completes without complaint, the r/w/c values remain zero. yesterday
the complaint was for a set of samba .tdb files; i stopped samba and renamed
those files, then restarted samba to recreate the and had no issue. this
morning i see the message above.
i've seen this now on two different hosts running different os versions
(possibly same zpool versions, i'm unsure) though all code is/was around 3
years old. one affected pool was on spinning rust; this one happens to be on a
pair of SSDs. the errors were similar in that files kept showing up as being
corrupted though i found nothing in the logs that stood out to me, and the
r/w/c counters stayed at zero the whole time.
so ... with this really old code, is this possibly a zfs code error?
zpool/disk-stats code error? failing memory?
i'm fine replacing the disks, or the memory, or the whole machine and os (with
smartos of course) but want to understand why i'm seeing this and don't want to
waste my customer's time or money either.
and yes, we have backups. :)
