If we assume that you aren't going to have much luck with wireless
support in SmartOS, then you could look at getting a wifi router and
configuring it in bridge mode. I.e.:
wifi <--> router <-- ethernet cable --> server
Another alternative is to try a couple of "Homeplugs" to set up a
connection via the mains to your existing router. "Homeplugs" work best
on clean mains lines, not plugged in via adaptors.
If this were me I'd use an old laptop which is presently unused, plug it
in directly to the server's ethernet socket, and use its wifi for
access. Or even my Raspberry Pi, which has both ethernet and WiFi :-)

Many wifi USB devices are not supported by illumos. You should verify
it's USB vendor and device id with prtconf. It may also be that
smartos is simply lacking the driver. I think Joyent may have
stripped the wifi drivers from smartos but I'm not sure.
I'd actually suggest trying homerun networking if Ethernet isn't an
option. I've had good luck with that in my home although it's lower
bandwidth. It still is more than I get upstream though to the
Internet.

Yes, I mean wifi USB adapter. I have the server located in a
different room from where the router is, and I don't wont to deal
with cables and wired connections (my cat can't stop biting the
cables). I thought the wireless adapter should be the solution, but
when plugged in, SmartOS can't even recognize it as an interface (the
interface isn't visible in dladm show-phys listing). Any pointers?
Thanks

Do you mean real wusb (as in USB over a wireless connection) or just
a wifi USB adapter? The former is removed I think since there are
nearly no such devices and the WUSB group and industry support for
it pretty much disintegrated years ago. However the latter should be
possible to enable with dladm and/or svcadm but this admittedly
seems rather strange since it suggests you are running smartos on
bare metal on a laptop or some such? I expect you might have a lot
of difficulties with that as the smartos distro is tuned for servers
and misses many things you'd want in a workstation type deployment.

Hello, if I'm not wrong, the wusb service is not deployed by
default on SmartOS. How can I enable it, and configure the wireless
USB adapter? Thanks
