It was a normal smartos zone (Joyent). We assum re it was due to memory pressure , but we didn't think adding another vm would cause a full outage like this (machine has ~20 other machines like this active)

I had vmadm create lock up for a long time once, it was due to a lx branded zone being created with a static IP that already existed on the network.
