Id say if you just need a gui for provisioning VMs that fifo is really fast and easy to get up and running.
But if you try to build an HA clustered fifo deployment you better buy a book on erlang and start reading. Same goes for troubleshooting any fifo problems. Youll need to learn some erlang. You'll definitely want to remember that snapshots are your friend too. Ive botched my share of fifo deployments and if you destroy it and start over with existing running VMs its a ton of work to get your packages and networks reconfigured. Let me tell you, Erlang is not easy either. But fifo has a beautiful simple interface and its great for provisioning VMs and zones. Ive had my share of learning curves with LEosFS too. SmartDC has many many more moving parts, but, it supports the latest versions of SmartOS so youre not restricted to tested versions only. If you need to analyze big data I say go with SmartDC so you can use Manta. Im also getting ready to switch to smartdc and Im really looking for the built in dtrace and the billing features that are built in. Hope this helps!
