Don't do that. It's wrong. When you purchase 512n disks, you are committing yourself to purchasing 512n FRUs for the lifetime of your storage pool. If you do not want to make that commitment or your vendor will not commit to their availability over your server's intended lifetime, then you need to purchase 4k disks up front. This should not be a surprise; it's a very basic PLC issue that has been discussed to death for years. > I’ve read through several instructional pages and I cannot override the size > by editing the /kernel/drv/sd.conf file, according to: > > http://wiki.illumos.org/display/illumos/ZFS+and+Advanced+Format+disks > http://blog.delphix.com/gwilson/2012/11/15/4k-sectors-and-zfs/ > > Is the following feature included in the SmartOS live kernel? > > https://www.illumos.org/issues/2665 It's marked resolved, so yes. We are fully up to date with illumos. > Perhaps it is and it only supports making block sizes larger, not smaller? What do you mean by "I cannot override..."? What specifically did you do, and what was the result? ------------------------------------------- smartos-discuss Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/184463/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/184463/25769125-55cfbc00 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=25769125&id_secret=25769125-7688e9fb Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
