Yes, exactly. With 6 disks in a mirror configuration, a hot spare would limit you to 2 x 2 data disks, in which case you might as well use a 3-way mirror for better durability.
If space is more important, you could consider a raidz2 with no spare, for 4 data disks + parity, but low IOPS. Either way, with 6 disks I see little reason to allocate a hot spare. raidz[1] is not usually a good idea with high-capacity disks.
