As it turns out, running ./configure as the root user, works fine. Seems like admin can't create /opt/sunstudio12.1 and /opt/SUNWspro. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. At any rate, someone should update the wiki page, so that new users (or old users with a poor memory) know that root credentials are required for a successful configure. I would do it myself but the wiki software is completely unintuitive (I've been trying to find the damn 'edit' button for a few days now, using 3 different browsers, to no avail).
