So... the test 64-bit Ubuntu Image for LXz is a "Canonical Ubuntu Certified
Image".

This appears like an inconsistent application of whatever T&C Joyent and
Canonical have
agreed to that allows this, but not distribute the KVM images for SmartOS
users.
It is a PITA to try to upgrade the old Ubuntu 12.04 LTS image - we can
access - to 14.04.
If the issue is some license fee, then sort out a billing option for
SmartOS users to access
the image - otherwise we would appreciate something consistent with free
OSS.
