The templates for those images are on github so you can look into the customize 
script and the zoneinit part to know what was done:

It would be nice if that documented whatever the "tuning" was.  It doesn't.

Personally, I'd much rather start from a Base64 image and install what I know I 
need, so I know exactly how the zone is set up from start to finish.  If 
there's some special black magic going on, as was implied, it would be nice to 
know what that is.
