While it may be technically possible, it's not practical. SmartOS is not
designed as a system to be run as something with a full X11 gui. The
global zone is hostile to running arbitrary software and you can't run
X11 in a zone. If you go down this path, you will have a terrible
experience.

Instead, I suggest running SmartOS in a virtual machine in one of your
other primary operating systems.
