Greetings.

Recently, my SmartOS/HP MicroServer based home fileserver encounter trouble
booting. That's when I realized I had (indefensibly) gotten rid of my last
monitor with a VGA connection.

So, I bought a "VGA to HDMI Converter", thinking this would be awesome as I
can go back to using the TV when I need to. (
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y07LGPM). And it is SO CLOSE to working
...

Everything is fine through the BIOS stuff. I can get into the
configuration, etc. But as soon as GRUB comes up, it switches to showing
some 40x24 (-ish?) mode, which makes debugging extra challenging. I have
been able to test other modes using testvbe from grub, but just can't
figure out how to actually set them. Worse, the system is convinced all is
fine, so half the screen is cut off. I've tried cycling through various
display modes on my TV, plugged in a different HDMI monitor, searched
through grub and SmartOS docs but haven't found the right magic.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Steven
