For SDC/Triton you can create custom images via CloudAPI:

Thanks, I'm running SDC/Triton so that's a good place to start.

For SmartOS, there isn't a supported process but you can create you own Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, Alpine or Debian images from scratch for SmartOS using one of the following:

https://github.com/joyent/ubuntu-lx-brand-image-builder
https://github.com/joyent/centos-lx-brand-image-builder
https://github.com/joyent/fedora-lx-brand-image-builder
https://github.com/joyent/alpine-lx-brand-image-builder
https://github.com/joyent/debian-lx-brand-image-builder

We use the above to build the various lx-brand images we make available. They are not supported but if you are looking to create your own images they should be useful.

Yes they are, I've been looking at those for porting client KVM/VmWare machines to lx zones.

Cheers,
