I created the virtual machine again and now it works.
The only difference with the time it did not work is that now the
virtual machine has access to internet.

Can you tell me what's in the following files in that failed zone?
* /var/svc/log/system-zoneinit\:default.log
/var/svc/log/smartdc-mdata\:fetch.log
/var/svc/log/smartdc-mdata\:execute.log
those should give us a better idea what's going on. My guess would be
that somehow the networking is not working. This image does a bunch of
configuration using such things as /opt/local/bin/sm-create-vhost as
part of zoneinit which also needs to use pkgin. So if the network is
not working, the image will fail to provision.
