I would like to add one item to the release highlights: Dramatic speed increase for clock_gettime()
This release features the addition of the "comm page", a mechanism similar in function to the OSX facility of the same name and the Linux vDSO. On native SmartOS, it enables clock_gettime(2) to be performed entirely in userspace using the x86 TSC. The comm page is also leveraged by the LX vDSO emulation, similarly accelerating calls to gettimeofday(2), clock_gettime(2), time(2), and getcpu(2). On typical server-class hardware, I observed a 5X speedup for clock_gettime(2) calls.
