I've tested the image at

for the initial config problem, and it worked fine.
I'll try to test for the USB side of the patch tomorrow.
I also tested this on a physical machine and can confirm that the code
does exclude USB devices as per Github Gist at
https://gist.github.com/jperkin/6487bcc6da5cd912b154
N.B. On the HP MicroServer N40L, any USB device plugged into the ports
at
the front or rear of the machine don't show up as removable in 'disklist
-r'.
A USB stick in the internal slot does.
