Hello,

Will gdb be supported or at least tolerated in LX zones at some point?

Currently it is locking up the zone and the global zone when run in an
Ubuntu-16.04 zone, which isn't very friendly!
Hey Ian,

gdb should definitely not be doing that inside of an lx branded zone.
What platform version are you running?

joyent_20160706T191858Z

Can you give a bit more detail
about what the lock up is doing? Is it stopping existing sessions from
working or is something else going on?
The gdb session runs as follows:

$ gdb Tests
GNU gdb (Ubuntu 7.11.1-0ubuntu1~16.04) 7.11.1

Reading symbols from Tests...done.
(gdb)
(gdb) run
Starting program: /home/icollins/bin/Posix_Debug/Tests
warning: linux_ptrace_test_ret_to_nx: PC (nil) is neither near return address 0x7ffffe820000 nor is the return instruction 0x4b0a59!

At which point the system locks up.

One possible complication is the filesystem is nfs mounted into the zone. I'll try with a local copy.

Do you have the capability to NMI the system in this state?

Possibly, it's a Supermicro X9 system. I'll see if I can find out how.
