Thanks, I'll try this when I get back to the machine. FWIW It turns out
the machine has a semi-internal (take the lid off) USB2 header so I've
ordered a cable
(http://www.gorite.com/intel-nuc-nuc6i7kyk-skull-canyon-internal-common-io-header-df1-25mm-20-pin)
and will see if that does the trick.
