I'm pretty sure I gave SmartOS a quick spin under Veertu ( https://veertu.com/) on OSX, which uses the native hypervisor.framework. Never quite figured out if that is just using bhyve or xhyve ( https://github.com/mist64/xhyve) or not.
I know it works well enough under Virtualbox, at least just for testing/training. Neither of those probably allow KVM, mind.
