If you look at the output in the last message from the user who closed this issue, you'll see that they now have far fewer snapshots than they used to. The impression I have there is that this user no longer has the problem because they just no longer have enough snapshots for it to be a problem rather than anything that might have changed in the software. In order to address this and other problems, we've been working on a daemon called vminfod which will cache the zfs output so vmadm does not need to call zfs for each operation. The underlying problems with snapshot listing taking so long (even caching won't solve all problems when it takes almost 12 minutes for zfs list) are also something that we've got an open ticket for (https://smartos.org/bugview/OS-1847) but I'm not aware that anyone's currently actively working on that.
