I recently tried to build V8 on SmartOS (needed for some Ruby gem; Rubyracer) and bumped in to the issue described in the RethinkDB SmartOS pull request (The V8 link issue at the bottom of the pull request). I think RethinkDB support might be interesting since that would give us RethinkDB on SmartOS and also V8 support which is required for more things then just RethinkDB.
