I have a lot of snapshots. I used to periodically do a zfs send/receive to
another box (omniOS) and store the critical data there, deleting the
unnecessary parts that were created in the send/receive. But that got too
much for the backup network to handle, so I just have the snapshots. Is
there a practical limit to what is stored as snapshots on a host before it
affects performance? I just wonder if it's a better strategy to only store
maybe a week or month's worth of daily snaps per VM and the rest move the
files to a different location. Or do previous snapshots not affect the
running VMs at all?
