What kind of software, and what kind of dependencies and libraries does it need?
These will shape your process. For example, something in perl/python using lots of modules (only some of which might be already packaged) vs say rust or go which deliver a monolithic executable. In one case you're looking to build up the dependecy collection in the package system, in the other you're focusing more on the language build system. Either way, two points, aligned with your steps: 1. Emphasise a process starting from a new, clean zone, so you can isolate and capture any manual steps or installation while experimenting before dealing with packaging processes. 2. Elaborate on what remains unclear after reading the referenced pages. On 15 Nov. 2017 06:03, "Lonnie Cumberland" <[email protected]> wrote: Greetings All, Hope that everyone is doing well today. I am looking to test a software package on SmartOS and am looking for guidance on what is the best approach to: 1. Test the software without using the pkgin manager. Basically just want to add in the software binaries and libraries to run it and work out any configurations. 2. Build a package for pkgin after it runs well. I have found some good information at: https://wiki.smartos.org/display/DOC/Building+Packages and https://pkgsrc.joyent.com/ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
