Arne, could you repost here the recipes to restart X and DBUS ? I
would like to return to FSO, I am a bit uncomfortable with SHR.

sorry, but i did not post any of those -- i am in no way familiar with plain fso.

two things, though, spring to mind:
- log in via ssh and try to start X, from other posts i graps it should be

/etc/init.d/xserver-nodm stop

and start X

startx

any helpful messages?
dbus should have a script in /etc/init.d/ as well, which you could start with restart.
stop frameworkd (/etc/init.d/fso-frameworkd ?)and start it manually

frameworkd

or

fso-frameworkd

i don't know exactly, how it is named.

- you said, you flashed an older kernel -- i'd strongly advise, not to do so! i don't know which modules fso contains, but a mismatch between kernel and module might very well lead to unexpected behaviour. there should be a kernel image besides the fso image itself, being of the same version as the image.
