Hi Steven, I ran into the same. I just don't know why. I repaired it by changing from fbdev to glamo in /etc/xorg.conf (see http://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnFreeRunner) Please also apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-glamo.
I am CCing the experts list. You may have ran into an issue with the installer. My hunch is that it has something to do with the nodm setup....just a hunch.
