Hi All,

To everyone that is interested in seeing how Duckwater project has
progressed, we have created binary deliverable (i386 and sparc) that
contains a snapshot of the latest Duckwater development code.

We would love to get your feedback!

The binaries, and all the other information you need to know
is located here:

http://opensolaris.org/os/project/duckwater/demo/

What will you find in the demo?

     - Enhanced 'standalone' ldaplist(1M) and ldapaddent(1M) tools.

These updated tools now allow setup and management of an LDAP
environment without first configuring a machine as LDAP naming
       client (Native LDAP Client).

     - New name services configuration tool - nscfg(1M)

This is a new tool, similar to SMF's svccfg(1M). It configures
naming services subsystem on OpenSolaris. It helps create SMF
configurations for each back-end, and switch profiles (similar to
/etc/nsswitch.conf) ,and associate profiles with appropriate
       back-end configurations.

It can import your existing naming environment configuration or
auto discover existing network naming environments using DHCP and
       DNS.

     - New name services administration tool - nsadm(1M)

This tool is used for switching between any name service profile
created with nscfg(1M). The purpose that you can create one or
more profiles (for home, for work, nis, ldap ...), pre-verify
[TBD] and then reconfigure the system with a single consistent
       command.

nsadm takes care of updating the on disk configurations, enabling
and disabling the necessary services, allowing you to switch
naming configurations reliably without any reboot.

We have more planned updates and binary drops in the works. If you're
interested, please visit and check the pages for more updates coming
soon.

Have fun with the demo and please let us know what you think on the
sparks-discuss discussion forum.

Thanks,
Duckwater team
