Please correct me if I am wrong...

You are looking to add properties and features similar to what
/etc/default/sendmail file does for the sendmail service when we would
define MODE="" to disable daemon mode?

Just trying to put it in perspective, because I got lost in those
projects you linked, but I think I get the idea.
