I'm having the same issue with ldap/client not coming up on boot. We use a DNS based sysidcfg file as well. Who truly uses one nameservice? It's probably safe to say most sites use ldap and/or nis for users, etc in conjunction with DNS for hosts.
I've never really been able to get a sysidcfg to work with LDAP, seems like you have to add the host to ldap, etc and its just a big pain. When we do our jumps, we add the host to DNS, add the host to the jumpstart rules, etc and blast down all the LDAP specific files in /var/ldap and our custom /etc/nsswitch.conf, /etc/domainname, etc during the jumpstart. I haven't found an elegant solution to this yet but I'm getting there. I do like the SMF a lot but the learning curve is steep. Right now I'm having fun developing our own manifests for the netbackup clients... which by the way is tcpwrapped since wrappers are on by default in 10... that was killing me for awhile.
