I agree. Ask the question this way, is forcing a sysadmin to edit a script in /etc/init.d tenable? I think not. It is just one filename removed from /etc/rc.local. The good news is that there are many services which are simple and do not have lots of configuration information in SMF. In this case you get the benefits of SMF without the worry about editing /etc/rc.local. -- richard
