SMF Community,
Since the the last Enhanced SMF Profiles design review, I began
designing interfaces. It became evident that the project had become too
large, however. In the interest of showing progress, we've decided to
pursue a "phase 1" project to implement a subset of the long-term
functionality and underlying profiles infrastructure. Specifically, the
required features have been reduced to
- simplify upgrade of manifests
- allow administrators to specify arbitrary SCF customizations in
a file which can be applied to multiple systems
In particular, we are planning to postpone most profiles-enabled
features for administrators or developers until a later phase. The
proposed feature design decisions are documented at

Please review it and send feedback to smf-discuss. Next we will draft
interfaces for phase 1 (all private other than the extended profile
format), which I will publish for review on this mailing list.
