Plugging in a USB device will change /etc/path_to_inst and if I plug in a device and then remove it, although the contents will be the same, the mtime will change. i.e. plugging in the iPod to recharge and then removing it later in the day is enough to cause things to want to rebuild the boot archive, it seems :( Darren
