Depending on your OS... When you compile (or make), and then "make install" smokeping from the /usr/ports directory under FreeBSD, SmokePing automatically creates the required User Account and Group.
/usr/ports/net/smokeping/make install This is the account that was created on my Server: emerald# cat passwd |grep smok smokeping:*:1010:1010:SmokePing Daemon:/nonexistent:/nonexistent and group: emerald# cat group |grep smok smokeping:*:1010: Hope you come right.
