Since smokeping must always run (and the init.d script utterly failed to start smokeping on reboot), I'm letting smokeping run supervised.
Neat! It works. Yay! But (you could have guessed the "But", couln't you?): Now smokeping doesn't log to the log anymore -- but it also doesn't log to standard-out. When started with "/usr/bin/perl -w /usr/sbin/smokeping --nodaemon" I get no logs at all, where I used to get AT LEAST: May 25 09:12:51 watchmen smokeping[2021]: Launched successfully May 25 09:12:51 watchmen smokeping[2021]: EchoPingHttp: probing 5 targets May 25 09:12:51 watchmen smokeping[2021]: FPing: probing 79 targets May 25 09:12:51 watchmen smokeping[2021]: EchoPingSmtp: probing 0 targets May 25 09:12:51 watchmen smokeping[2021]: DNS: probing 4 targets Neither on stdout, nor in /var/log/smokeping.log # specify this to get syslog logging syslogfacility = local0 and in syslog.conf: local0.* -/var/log/smokeping.log -- Ralf Hildebrandt (Im Auftrag des Referat V a) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Charite - Universitätsmedizin Berlin Tel. +49 (0)30-450 570-155 Gemeinsame Einrichtung von FU- und HU-Berlin Fax. +49 (0)30-450 570-916 IT-Zentrum Standort Campus Mitte AIM. ralfpostfix -- Unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Help mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archive http://www.ee.ethz.ch/~slist/smokeping-users WebAdmin http://www.ee.ethz.ch/~slist/lsg2.cgi
