Well sure - the most grey bars you see is, what, maybe 5 or 6? So with 20 data points (20 pings) if you have 15 values of 33ms and 2 values of 250ms 3 values of 500ms, the median is still 33ms and you get 2 bars of "smoke" above the median line.

As you can hopefully see, multiple grey colours on some (not all) bars are seen, and the majority are above the line.
