I strongly suspect that you're polling too many targets for a 60-second interval as you have configured. 

Check your smokeping logs for a message like "polling did not complete within the step time" or something similar -- I can't recall the exact error message.  What that message means is that you have too many targets configured on a single probe instance, and it's not able to ping all the targets within your 'step' time.

You can rectify this by either adding additional (parallel) probe instances, or by increasing your step time, or by reducing the number of checks per step.   Note, however, that the last 2 options require you to manually reconfigure your RRD files with the new parameters (or delete the existing RRDs and lose all historical data).
