1) Synchronous vs asynchronous operation is actually "blocking-during-
sending" vs "non-blocking-during-sending" operation. For your specific
case, I don't think it will make any difference...

2) It really depends on you. SMSServer is, I think, a faster solution
to deploy - setup the database and just insert records from your own
apps. If this is not sufficient enough, you will have to use SMSLib
and write whatever application / logic suits you.
