My son and his mother (who live in Somerset) have an aged G4
iMac 1ghz which must be nearing the end of its life I think
(bought about the time that Panther came out - it had upgrade
disks but 10.2 installed). We don't have the budget nor - they
insist - the need for anything very powerful as they just do
email, Word and web browsing (my son is thankfully not as
addicted to technology as I am). The machine works fine but
still has 10.3.9 which is making it hard to install anything new
(and his iPod nano is busted - but new ones require iTunes 8, I
guess, which requires Tiger).

a) is this machine worth anything now? it's 15" screen,
ball-and-stick (which I still like!). But I think it will start
in Os 9 if there are die-hards out there still using Photoshop 2
or whatever... (is it Framemaker that people still use in Classic?)

b) how much would a used G5 iMac be worth?

c) if they do get a new machine with Leopard, can I use Screen
Sharing remotely without getting too complicated to install
stuff for them and troubleshoot? This would be useful but I've
never managed to set it up with the software available for 10.3.

Just trying to work out whether to get a Mac Mini and monitor
for them, or a sturdy used but younger imac.

I realise I'm probably splitting hairs though - it's going to be
£500 or so...!
