Dear SMUGs,

Hope it is OK if I share the following problem my daughter is having
with photobooks on her (Intel) i-Mac:

"I have approximately 3000 photos from a particular holiday that I
wanted to make into two separate large photobooks. I selected the
event that these photos are in and completed a 96 page book using the
first half of them. No problems completing the book or going in and
out of it over several weekends to do it. I then started on the
second volume from the other half of the photos and could always
continue to access the first album and compare so the style was
similar and not too many similar photos. Just as I was finishing the
second volume (80 - 90 pages as well) I started having problems with
accessing the first. When I click on the icon I just get a 'loading
book' message, but it never actually loads. The information panel
tells me the title of the book, the date range of the photos included,
the number of items selected from and the size (18.3GB). Sometimes
when I try to load I get as far as the bar at the top showing the
photos it has been selected from, but if I scroll through these it
shows the photos that I have selected for the second book. When I
click on the second book it comes up within a couple of seconds, but
the information panel gives me different information - the title of
the book, the theme, type, size, the items, how many photos are
unplaced and how many pages it contains. I had tried searching
discussion forums for similar problems and the only suggested problem/
solution related to the amount of hard drive free space - mine is over
130 GB so I don't think this is the problem.

As so many hours over several weekends were spent making up the first
book I want to try and get into it rather than starting again - any
suggestions about what the problem might be or whether there is any
other way of recovering the file or accessing it from outside of
iphoto? Unfortunately no backup - partly because I couldn't manage to
save it outside of iphoto just in case and partly because time machine
was only set-up externally after the problem started (now done of
course!)."

As always, all contributions gratefully received.

Malcolm
